More tourist attractions are being discovered in the Eastern Region to make the area a hub of tourism in Ghana. Apart from the popular tourist sites including the Aburi Botanical Gardens, Boti Waterfalls, Akosombo Dam, Oda Big Tree and the Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm, two new places have been discovered.
They are the Adasawase–Timi Waterfalls near Anyinam in the Atiwa District and the Kentenkren Waterfalls near Koforidua in the New Juaben municipality. This was disclosed by the Eastern Regional Director of Ghana Tourists Board, Sampson Donkoh in an interview with Radio Ghana in Koforidua.
He expressed the Board’s determination to explore the tourism potential in the Region in order to generate more income for the District Assemblies and communities in the area. It will also create job opportunities for the youth to minimize the rate of unemployment in the country and the region in particular.
According to him, if such potential is properly packaged to attract more visitors, the proceeds will be shared by the stakeholders including the Central Government, District Assemblies and traditional authorities.
Mr.Donkoh therefore suggested to the people to develop interest in the training of tour guides to give accurate information about the sites to tourists. This, he noted, will also add professionalism to the job and help the various sites to keep proper records.
