The rest are Ms Sena Akua Dansuah, Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, Mr. Collins Dauda, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Joseh Yile Chireh, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Joe Gidisu, Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Mike Hammah, Minister for Transport and Dr Oteng Adjei, Minister for Energy.
They swore the Oath of Allegiance, Oath of a Minister and Oath of Secrecy administered by President Mills, who presented the instruments of appointment to each of the new ministers.
Addressing the ministers, President Mills reminded the of the need to be modest since that will be one of the yardsticks to judge his government’s leadership.
President Mills said Ghanaians voted for a change because they wanted improvement in their daily lives, and the ministers are coming into office at a time when many people are in need of jobs, electricity, water and other basic amenities.
Saying, the expectations of his administration are very high, and they therefore should be modest and serve the people in humility.
He said, the swearing in of the ministers into office immediately after approval by parliament is to enable them start work immediately and set things in motion.
The Vice President, Mr John Mahama, hoped the new ministers will not disappoint the President and the people of Ghana, and reminded them of the need to eschew arrogance, and give the people selfless service, since political office is never permanent.
He also urged them to live morally upright lives since the President will not hesitate to remove from office, any minister found to have misconducted himself.
Mr Mahama appealed to them to sincerely follow the code of ethics of ministers to enable them provide selfless service, avoid abuse of office and conflict of interest.
The Vice President also reminded the minister of their role as chief implementers of government policies and said government’s ability to achieve its manifesto in four years will largely depend on the work of the ministers. Calling on them to work hard to deliver on the promises the party made to the people.
Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, the new Minister for Education, on behalf of his colleagues promised to live up to the oath they swore.
He also promised a dedicated selfless service to the people of Ghana. Assuring President Mills of their resolve to cooperate and work among themselves diligently to meet the interest and the aspirations of the people of this country.
